What in the world does an Agent do??

I am an independent insurance agent. If those three words mean little to you, you are not alone. At parties and PTA functions, people's eye's tend to glaze over when they hear what I do. Even folks who seek me out aren't sure what I do.

A few months ago I helped a new client figure out how to enroll on the Washington State Healthplanfinder, find an appropriate health insurance plan, and qualify for a tax credit. One of her comments was ‘I am so glad I found you; I didn’t know that people like you even existed!’

As an independent insurance agent, I am not limited to offering just one company’s products. I am licensed with multiple companies, and that allows me to help you find a product that meets your specific needs. I keep up to date on industry changes, meet continuing education requirements every two years, and attend seminars and webinars to keep me up to date on what’s happening in the insurance world.

What can I do for you?

  • I specialize in Health and Life insurance (so no auto, home, umbrella - but I've got folks I can refer you to!)

  • Advise you on the right company and plan

  • Help you complete the application process in a timely manner

  • Advocate for you with the insurance company

  • Assist in resolving billing and claims issues

  • And much more!

So now I’ve briefly covered what I do, here’s the big question:

Who pays me and how much does it cost?

I am paid on commission by the insurance companies – and that means that you don’t have to pay me directly. Your monthly premium is the same as the premium you would pay without using my services. So if it costs the same, why wouldn’t you want to have an agent on your side?
